10 Things You Shouldn’t Be Storing on Your Kitchen Countertop
A clean and organized kitchen is not only more attractive but also safer and more hygienic. While kitchen countertops are designed for meal preparation, many people use them to store everyday items that can create clutter, reduce workspace, or even spoil more quickly. Here are ten things you should avoid keeping on your kitchen countertop.
1. Bread
Although it may seem convenient, bread stays fresher when stored in a bread box or pantry. Leaving it on the countertop can cause it to dry out or become stale faster.
2. Potatoes and Onions
These vegetables should be stored in a cool, dark, and well-ventilated place. Keeping them on the counter—especially together—can shorten their shelf life.
3. Cooking Oils and Spices
Heat and sunlight can reduce the quality and flavor of oils and spices. Store them in a cool cabinet away from the stove.
4. Mail and Paperwork
Bills, letters, and other papers quickly create clutter and may even become stained or damaged in the kitchen.
5. Small Kitchen Appliances
Appliances that are rarely used, such as waffle makers or food processors, are better stored in cabinets to free up valuable counter space.
