For years, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been building a life far removed from the traditional expectations of the British royal family.
They left their roles as senior working royals, moved to the United States, created new businesses and media projects, and established a charitable organization that became one of the most recognizable parts of their post-royal identity.
Now, five years after Archewell was created, the couple has made another significant change.
The Archewell Foundation has been renamed Archewell Philanthropies, while its organizational structure is also being changed to a fiscal-sponsorship model.
And this time, the change appears to be about more than simply giving the organization a new name.
A New Chapter for Archewell
When Harry and Meghan launched Archewell, the organization became an important part of their new life outside the monarchy.
The name itself was inspired by the Greek word “arche,” meaning a source of action, while also serving as a connection to their son, Archie.
Over the following years, Archewell became associated with the couple’s charitable efforts, including work focused on mental health, digital wellbeing and community initiatives.
But the organization has now entered a new phase.
In December 2025, as Archewell marked its fifth anniversary, Harry and Meghan announced that the foundation would become Archewell Philanthropies. The new structure is designed to give them more flexibility in supporting philanthropic projects internationally while reducing some of the administrative responsibilities involved in operating an independent nonprofit.
