Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Make a Surprising Change to Archewell — and It Could Shape Their Family’s Future

The creation of Archewell gave the couple something they had not had in quite the same way during their royal careers.

A platform they controlled themselves.

It allowed them to support causes they cared about while building an organization around their own priorities.

Over time, the couple’s philanthropic interests have included mental health, online safety, community support and other social initiatives.

The new Archewell Philanthropies structure now appears designed to make that work more flexible.

Rather than maintaining a large administrative operation, the organization can use the infrastructure of an established nonprofit while Harry and Meghan focus on the causes and partnerships they want to develop.

But the Restructuring Also Means Staff Changes

The transition has not been completely seamless.

Reports surrounding the restructuring said that some staff redundancies were inevitable, particularly among junior administrative positions, because some functions would now be handled through the fiscal sponsor. (Us Weekly)

James Holt, who had served as executive director, also stepped down from that position in December 2025.

He was expected to continue supporting Harry and Meghan’s philanthropic work as a senior philanthropic adviser. (The Independent)

So while the Sussexes describe the change as an evolution of their charitable mission, it also represents a significant organizational shift behind the scenes.
