My Stepmom Laughed at the Prom Dress My Brother Sewed From Our Late Mom’s Jeans — By the End of the Night, the Whole School Knew the Truth (Part 2)

I stood in front of the mirror, trying not to cry.

The dress was beautiful.

My older brother, Ethan, had spent weeks making it by hand from our late mother’s old jeans. Every stitch, every fold, every detail carried a piece of her memory.

Then my stepmother, Linda, walked into the room.

She looked at me from head to toe and burst out laughing.

“You’re wearing that? To prom?” she said.

I swallowed hard.

“It’s made from Mom’s jeans.”

Linda rolled her eyes.

“Exactly. You look like you’re wearing old curtains.”

Ethan stepped between us.

“Don’t talk about Mom’s things like that.”

She crossed her arms.

“Please. Your mother would never have wanted this.”

The room fell silent.

That hurt.

Because Mom wasn’t here to defend herself.

But Ethan gently took my hand.

“Ignore her. Mom would have loved it.”

I nodded, wiping away a tear.

A few minutes later, we left for prom.

As we arrived at the school, I suddenly felt nervous.

Everyone looked so glamorous.

Then something unexpected happened.

One girl approached me.

“Oh my gosh… your dress is incredible!”

Then another student came over.

“And it’s made of denim? That’s amazing!”

Within minutes, people surrounded me, asking where I had bought it.

“I didn’t buy it,” I said proudly. “My brother made it from our mother’s old jeans.”

Everyone turned toward Ethan.

The crowd erupted into applause.

One of the teachers even wiped away tears.

“That is the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard,” she said.

Soon, the principal came over.

“Would you mind sharing the story during the prom announcements?”
