The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has been leading the local investigation, while the FBI has provided federal assistance.
Authorities have spent months examining surveillance footage, processing evidence and following tips from members of the public.
In July, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators were continuing to work aggressively on the case and expressed confidence that it could eventually be resolved. He also said investigators had substantial DNA and video evidence to examine.
But despite the enormous effort, the case remains unsolved.
New Ransom Notes Brought More Questions
The investigation became even more complicated because of messages claiming to come from Nancy’s alleged kidnappers.
Authorities recently released two ransom notes connected to the case in an effort to generate new leads.
One note demanded millions of dollars in cryptocurrency and claimed Nancy was alive. Another later message claimed that she had died after being abducted.
The release of the notes was intended to help investigators identify the person or people responsible through handwriting, language patterns or other details that members of the public might recognize.
The conflicting messages have added another layer of uncertainty to an already devastating case.
Savannah Guthrie Makes Emotional Pleas for Help
Throughout the investigation, Savannah Guthrie has continued speaking publicly about her mother.
In late July, she released an emotional video pleading with whoever may know what happened to Nancy to provide information about her whereabouts.
Then, as the six-month mark approached, Savannah and her family made another public appeal.
She described the family’s experience as unbearable and urged anyone with information to come forward, even if they believed their information might seem insignificant.
Her public appeals have helped keep the case in the national spotlight.
The Family Has Not Given Up
For Nancy’s children and grandchildren, the investigation is much more than a news story.
It is the disappearance of a mother, grandmother and loved one whose family has spent months waiting for answers.
Savannah Guthrie has continued to express hope that someone will eventually provide the information investigators need.
At the same time, the family has acknowledged how painful the uncertainty has become.
They are not simply searching for information about what happened.
They want to know where Nancy is.
A Case That Remains Open
As of the latest confirmed reports in August 2026, Nancy Guthrie remains missing.
There has been no confirmed recovery and no publicly identified suspect. The FBI continues to seek information that could lead to Nancy’s location or to the identification and arrest of those responsible.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s location and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.
For Savannah Guthrie and her family, the hope is that someone, somewhere, knows something that could finally bring them the answers they have been waiting for.
And until those answers come, the search for Nancy Guthrie continues.
