They Thought It Was Nothing—Until They Looked Closer
It started as a tiny spot on the back of Michael’s neck.
At first, neither he nor his wife gave it much thought. It looked like a small insect bite—slightly red, a little itchy, and easy to ignore. They assumed it would disappear within a few days.
But it didn’t.
Over the next two weeks, the spot became darker and slightly larger. Michael noticed that it occasionally bled when he scratched it, yet it never seemed to heal completely. Friends suggested it was probably a harmless skin irritation, while others recommended over-the-counter creams.
Nothing worked.
Eventually, his wife insisted that he schedule an appointment with a dermatologist.
The doctor examined the spot carefully using a special magnifying device and immediately recommended a biopsy. A few anxious days later, the results confirmed that the growth was an early-stage melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer.
Fortunately, it had been detected before spreading to other parts of his body.
