According to Tressa’s own account and later reporting, the abuse began when she was around seven years old. She was threatened and manipulated into keeping what was happening a secret.
Tressa later explained that she feared revealing the truth would destroy her family and lead to her siblings being taken into care.
That fear kept her silent for years.
When she became pregnant at 11, the situation became even more complicated. At first, another young person was publicly identified as the father.
The truth would not emerge until later.
Becoming a Mother at Just 12
In 2006, Tressa gave birth to a baby girl at the age of 12 years and eight months.
At the time, she became widely known as Britain’s youngest mother, and the story attracted enormous media attention.
But the public did not initially know the circumstances behind her pregnancy.
Instead, much of the coverage focused on her age and lifestyle, creating an image that failed to capture what the child had actually experienced.
Years later, Tressa revealed that the father of her baby was her older brother. DNA testing confirmed the relationship, and her brother was later convicted of rape and sentenced to prison. (Andrew Lownie Literary Agency)
The revelation completely changed how her story was understood.
What had once been presented as a sensational teenage pregnancy was revealed to be the result of prolonged sexual abuse.
Losing Her First Child
After giving birth, Tressa tried to care for her daughter despite being only 12 years old herself.
