What About Baking Soda?
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is much more controversial as a skincare ingredient.
It has mild exfoliating properties, which is why some people use it to remove dead skin cells.
However, dermatologists generally advise caution because baking soda has a high alkaline pH, while healthy skin is naturally slightly acidic.
Frequent use may:
- Damage the skin barrier
- Cause dryness
- Trigger redness
- Increase irritation
- Make sensitive skin more prone to breakouts
For these reasons, baking soda is generally not recommended as a regular facial exfoliant.
Can This Mixture Reverse Aging?
The short answer is no.
There is no scientific evidence showing that mixing baby oil with baking soda can erase wrinkles, stimulate collagen production, or make someone look decades younger.
If someone’s skin appears smoother after using the mixture, it’s most likely because:
- Baby oil temporarily improves hydration.
- Gentle exfoliation removes dull surface skin.
- Better moisturized skin naturally reflects more light.
These effects are temporary and should not be confused with reversing skin aging.
