How to Improve Forward Head Posture After 60: A Simple 4-Minute Daily Routine

A Gentle 4-Minute Daily Routine

The following exercises are simple, low-impact, and appropriate for many older adults. Perform each movement slowly and stop immediately if you experience pain, dizziness, or numbness.

1. Chin Tucks (1 Minute)

This exercise strengthens the deep neck muscles that help keep your head properly aligned.

How to do it:

  • Sit or stand with your back straight.
  • Look forward.
  • Slowly pull your chin backward as if making a gentle double chin.
  • Keep your eyes level—do not tilt your head up or down.
  • Hold for 5 seconds.
  • Relax and repeat 8 to 10 times.

2. Shoulder Blade Squeezes (1 Minute)

Rounded shoulders often accompany forward head posture. Strengthening the upper back can improve overall posture.

How to do it:

  • Sit or stand tall.
  • Pull your shoulder blades gently backward and downward.
  • Avoid shrugging your shoulders.
  • Hold for 5 seconds.
  • Repeat 10 times.

3. Gentle Neck Stretch (1 Minute)

Stretching tight muscles may help relieve tension.
